چکیده

In this paper an investigation into the aspects of formal system speciication that manifest themselves when considering both time and system dynamics is carried out. A logic to express temporal dynamic properties is developed.

Combining Dynamic Deontic Logic and Temporal Logic for the Specification of Deadlines

Intelligent agents have an agenda that is monitored continuously to decide what action is to be performed. Formally, an agenda is a set of deontic temporal constraints. Deontic, since the agenda speciies what the agent should do. Temporal, since the obligation is usually to be performed before a certain deadline, or as soon as possible. In this paper, we investigate the concepts necessary to de...

Characterising Deadlines in Temporal Modal Defeasible Logic

We provide a conceptual analysis of several kinds of deadlines, represented in Temporal Modal Defeasible Logic. The paper presents a typology of deadlines, based on the following parameters: deontic operator, maintenance or achievement, presence or absence of sanctions, and persistence after the deadline. The deadline types are illustrated by a set of examples.

On the Representation of Deadlines in a Rental Agreement

Many agreements and contracts contain deadlines. Because deadlines combine time and obligations, they are naturally studied by a combination of temporal logic with deontic logic [2]. A deadline, that φ should occur before δ , can be expressed as a formula which involves the ‘until’-operator: OBL(φUδ ). However, such a characterisation does not indicate what will happen after the deadline. Since...

Bridges between Dynamic Doxastic and Doxastic Temporal Logics

Analyzing the behavior of agents in a dynamic environment requires describing the evolution of their knowledge as they receive new information. But equally crucial are agents’ beliefs over time, since most of our decisions and actions involve uncertainty, from going to work to selling shares. Beliefs, too, are information-based, and when refuted, they have to be revised in systematic ways. Thes...

Practical Proof Methods for Combined Modal and Temporal Logics

For a number of years, temporal and modal logics have been applied outside pure logic in areas such as formal methods, theoretical computer science and artiicial intelligence. In our research we are particularly interested in the use of modal logics in the characterisation of complex components within software systems as intelligent or rational agents. This approach allows the system designer t...
